Cali Film Festival "G.W. Bush South of Pecos"

Fernando IX University

The Hollywood Reporter” sent a draft of the screenplay to four biographers of the president to see how accurate they thought it was. Reactions were mixed; they say specific scenes are largely based in fact, but the screenplay shows inaccurate and over-the-top caricatures of President Bush and his inner circle.

One biographer says it “really misses the mark” of how the White House is run, leaving the impression that it’s similar to a fraternity house, with everyone using nicknames and casually chatting about going to war. Another biographer was skeptical about Stone’s claim that he wants to make a “fair, true portrait” of the president… saying that’s “like Donald Trump saying he is going to be modest.” Also, several of the experts say the script inaccurately depicts the president as being manipulated by White House staff when it comes to policy decisions.

Stone had no comment, but one screenwriter says he’s read 17 books on the president, and a producer says, “We’ve done our homework.”

Stone’s previous movies “JFK” and “Nixon” were controversial. It remains to be seen how much of an appetite the American public will have for a movie about a lame duck president, especially when there’s so much interest in who the next president will be.

“W” is set to start filming in Shreveport, Louisiana, this month. It already has foreign distributors, but no domestic deal is in place yet.

Here’s my question to you: Are you interested in seeing Oliver Stone’s movie about President Bush?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Chris from Hemet, California writes:
Hi Jack. Yes, I’m very interested to see that movie. I hope it ends with Bush and Cheney being tried for crimes against humanity by an international tribunal. I just hope that when I jump up to cheer during the sentencing I don’t spill all my popcorn.

Chuck from Alabama writes:
What a waste of celluloid. Think we’ll find this one in the DVD bargain bin at Wal-Mart for $3.99 at Christmas?

Andy writes:
You bet I will. President Bush is perhaps one of the most controversial figures of our time, and any interpretation of his life and administration will certainly draw interest from me and anyone engaged in contemporary political conversation and debate.

Terry from North Carolina writes:
Jack, I would rather watch reruns of you and Chuck Scarborough on the old six o’clock news than see a movie about George W. Bush or any Bush for that matter.

Suzanne writes:
Having lived through the real life drama/tragedy of the last 7 years, seeing the film will not be necessary. I’ll pop my own popcorn and try to make it through the next year.

Kathy from Georgia writes:
It is worth the price of admission to see Bush again on 9/11 reading what was probably his master’s thesis, “My Pet Goat.”

Matt writes:
I’ve already seen the movie. I watch CNN.

Bennett writes:
Yes, I would like to watch the movie. But, I will probably watch the Chinese bootleg instead of going to the theater. Gasoline is too expensive.

Rob writes:
“W” kinda looks like two thumbs down to me, Jack.

Sure, why not. Stone does make entertaining movies however he gets just a smidge loosey-goosey with facts. One should not base any answer to an academic question based upon information learned from an Oliver Stone film. Nor should one credit Oliver as a source in the bibliography of a term paper.

Yes, I’d like to see Oliver Stone’s film. I would also like to see “Body of War” which Phil Dobahue was vigorously supporting on MSNBC last night.

Jack - why have you eliminated you paragraphs of info leading up to your questions??? I don’t think I can answer them as responsibly as I’d like to without some information - biased or not - on the subject. Did you decide to eliminate the info because you’ve been accused of not being objective?

Dave Brooklyn, NY

Probably not. I know far more than I care to know about this miserable excuse for a leader of the free world. Besides, his last movie about a president, while pretending to be a documentary, contained made up stuff in addition to facts. So as much as I agree with the premise, I don’t agree with the method.

It is worth the price of admission to see Bush again on 9/11 reading what was probably his Master’s thesis “My Pet Goat.” There were probably two things going on in his limited brain. One was the question “Where in the world is the World Trade Center.” The second was “I wish I had not stolen the election.” Since he has been taking dancing lessons lately, I hope Stone include him and Condi on Dancing for Dummies.

April 8th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Yes, I probably will go see Stone’s take on the Bush administration. I love Oliver Stone and I think there is a place for his fictionalized histories in our popular culture. Heck, even Billy Shakespeare used the genre. The problem is that there are those in our society who cannot understand the difference between reality and fiction. “Reality” TV is a good example. Just because it has the word in it doesn’t mean it contains anything close to reality. As long as the film is advertised as what it is, people should not object to it. If Stone is as brilliant a director as most give him credit for, maybe he can make George out to be the hero or at least make him look like less of a jack ass.

Just living in this country under this administration is more than enough George Bush to last me a lifetime. I think the shame, disgust, and overall revulsion he inspires in me would make me want to throw popcorn and soda everywhere in fury.

I would see the movie “W” if it was a qood movie with decent actors. I am sure Stone will take some “artisic” liberties with the story - that is his right after all.

Will, San Jose CA
April 8th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

I’d rather see an very accurate film on what happened during the last 8 years. There is so much we need to know about how this administration pursued it’s agenda.

A sensationalist film tends to provide cover for the actions instead of exposing the reality of what really happened. Associating legitimate administration critics with extreme conspiracy theorists instead of investigating very important and real events.

I will only see the movie if Jack or Bush will pay for the ticket and popcorn. Why on earth does anybody wish to remind us of the horrors of the past eight years. I hope stone will confess that the talk about the movie is a tasteless April fools joke. Won’t the film make us relieve torture of prisoners, a failed economy, lost homes. inefficient aid to louisiana, failed and needless war in Iraq, go-it-alone foreign policy, listening in on intimate relational conversations, blind loyalty to China and Russia? Which of the catastrophies does stone want to immortalize? I appeal to Stone to please save us the pains of the ‘environmental’ disasters of the past eight years. My desire to see “W” is about as high as my desire was to see the movie “9/11″ after it came out, or as high as people’s desires were to see a Titanic movie immediately after it sank. Movie producers have to be more sensitive about making movies immediately after (or during) tragic events. We all need a mourning period- perhpas in 30 years, so that way we can cast an older Dicaprio as George ‘W’ shouting from on top of the president’s desk in the Oval Office- I’m the king of the world!!!

If any of those illegal acts make it to the “big screen” before we are able to put them on trial then they can’t be charged with those illegal acts. Yes, I would go see the movie, most definitely. But unfortunately I’d have to wait for it to come to a “Dollar Night Special”, if it stays in the theaters that long. Afterall,a dollar is quite a deal, seeing we’ve been “Bush-Wacked” for eight years.

Why? We all lived through it for almost 8 years. I mean I like horror movies but after spending almost 8 years glued to the TV set waiting for the next disaster to happen I don’t care if I ever see another scary movie. The only fast thing Congress did in 8 years was get us in to a war in Iraq and Afghanistan over night. Everything else they do comes slower then a snails pace. Well, except the pork barrel spending that is fast and furious and they pass it through congress with lightning speed. All of this would have to be in the movie because they were every bit at fault as George Bush was.

I wonder how much “truthyness” will be allowed. Will he show an administration going to war by mistake, or a cunning administration getting the access to oil and more for Chevron and Halliburton? Will he show a group devoted to supply-side tax cuts because they believe it will actually work, or because they know it won’t but they can get away with it? To view this group as bunglers is a mistake. They just have goals that don’t coincide with ours. They have been pretty good at getting what they want, and avoiding any personal consequences. If they were actually trying to act in the best interests of our country, they would have to be seen as completely incompetent and ignorant. I don’t think that’s who they are. they are more dangerous than that.

LOL! Caricature? How can any moviemaker ever make out Bush to be any worse or over the top than he already is? How can you make a caricature of the world’s archetypal caricature? I would only watch this movie if it documented (a la Michael Moore) all the impeachable offenses that the media has allowed to go ‘unpunished’. No - to be quite honest - I couldn’t endure being reminded of the misdeeds of this miscreant for one second longer than absolutely necessary. I cannot even stomach watching him on the evening news!

It’s going to be like one of those ‘based on a true story’ movies like ‘Walking Tall’ or ‘Eight Below’ which is 5% true and 95% made-up crap. I’m no fan of our 43rd president, but I think we should wait and see how the story ends before we start making movies about the man. When Stone did ‘JFK’ and ‘Nixon’ those guys were already dead and the moment of their legacy decades past. Let history evaluate his decisions and the repurcussions. We need a bit more fallout before we can truly judge Bush 43. Who knows? He just may end up not being the worst president, ever.

How could I see this thing after just barely living through it for the past eight years??????????? Good old Oliver Stone must believe that he has a market out there. As good a director as Oliver Stone is, a Bush movie is a movie that demands a genius touch that Stone lacks. The most original way to portray this Bush nightmare era would be as a frightening “black comedy,” a la “Dr. Strangelove.” Only a director with the wicked satirical talents of the late Stanley Kubrick could pull this kind of film off.

I won’t see it for the following reason:
It already pisses me off to see the real bush on TV and I couldn’t bear to sit through a movie for several hours getting pissed off even more.

if it’s half as bad about the portrayal of bush and the white house as the article claims about reviewers of the script, i think it will have a hard time finding an audience.
the dems don’t want to sit through it for reasons similar to my own (though some might, as they like getting all worked up over bush).
and republicans won’t see it be/c it’s going to be touted as a bush bashing film.

Most biopics tailor the facts a bit in the interest of good movie-making. I’m sure this will be no exception. But if only 10% of the Bush administration’s atrocities presented in Oliver Stone’s film are true, it should be enough to make every American’s hair stand on end. Honestly, with the way Bush has slandered and embarrassed the American people over the last seven years, I would revel in two hours of big-screen humiliation of the most un-American man to hold office in my lifetime. We all loved Will Ferrel’s Bush, we’ve tuned in to Comedy Central’s “Where’s My Bush,” we love to hear Olbermann’s nightly count of days since “Mission Accomplished,” and “Little Bush” has its viewers: I think a biopic from Stone is the next logical step. No one watches an Oliver Stone flick to learn; we watch his films for his interesting take on our world and to think about the questions he poses, often in a new way. I’ll be there, maybe even with an American flag on my lapel.

It is a same to how Americans typify themselves with there our self righteous rhetoric. I will agree that Bush’s presidency has it flaws, but the mere fact that Stone can make his movie and not mee the same condemnation as some current films prove that Bush has done something right. All the above comments about War crimes shows just how ungrateful they are. Try living in another country and say the things that you read, and you will truly see how spoilt and arrogrant some of you are. I hope the film discusses the election fraud and lack of political will by the Democrats and journalists to make it a real issue for investigation. Yes I would. And I’d watch it the same way I look at a car accident: with morbid curiosity.

I would like to see an honest movie about George W. Bush’s rise to the presidency……the Rise of the 1st American Dicator. Stone’s movies are always distortions of the truth. They’re like when the national news reported Mt. St. Helens dumped 2 feet of ash on Yakima, Wa. We actually got 2 inches. Rick, Yakima, Wa.

I would go see repeated viewings of a movie about the impeachment of George Bush. When it came out on DVD, I’d hold weekly screenings. I would play it every night before bed, and let it lull me to peaceful slumber.

Ed
April 8th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Yes I’d watch it. I hope it portrays him as the worst president in history (the truth) so that in the future people watch it and realize that it’s his fault their quality of life is not as good it could be.

Joe, Walnutport, PA
April 8th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

No! To make a movie about a sitting president during a time of war would require special care, honesty and integrity from the filmmaker. Stone’s drive to have the movie out before the November 2008 election, and also knowledge of his past films, puts high doubts in my mind about his true intentions.

Jack,

What does it even matter at this point what people say or do about Bush. This government, democrats and Republicans, have taught this country one thing and one thing only. That we are a nation of men, not of laws. international laws, our own laws, none of them matter so long as you can keep people busy worrying about American Idol and heat payments and food, then they can get away with destroying an entire civilization, but without a decent media to question those in power, tyrants will rule these united states forever.

Until lately there was little criticism of what I believe will turn out to be the most corrupt Administration in our history. Sure I’ll go see Stone’s film. But I hope that seeing the film doesn’t leave people thinking that’s all they have to do. The last eight years has seen big crimes, not the least of which is this illegal war. When will our elected officials step up to the plate, up to and including putting Impeachment back on the table. And when will the media start reporting the truth rather than Beltway wisdom and press room handouts.

Jack,

Oliver Stone can certainly make a good movie. But let’s not forget that most of his movies are pure fiction. He seems to be mired in conspiracy theories and loves to put things in movies that are never proven to be fact. Yet, when people watch the movie they believe every word he says.
It’s great if you watch his movies as pure entertainment but if you watch them to base opinions on real life matters then you need to get a life and realize that things are never as good as they seem and they are never as bad as they seem.

No, I don’t put money in the pockets of the Hollywood elitists, that try to make political statements. Just shut up and act or direct - I don’t give a fig what they think. If I were looking for Hollywood to give me the facts on anything I would be very uneducated and gullible. Just entertain us and keep your no so profound opinions to yourself.

Absolutely NOT. As my Dad would have said if he were still alive, “I’d just as soon see a dog fight.” I’ve lived through his rise to power and saw it all. Rob

Unfortunately, most of the responders to this entry seem to represent why are headed to being a “former” Superpower. President Bush has had to make tough and unpopular decisions. This country has fallen prey to the “do what’s superficial, easy and popular” vs. the “do what is right” mentality. Which explains O’bama’s popularity.
The world is a far better place without the likes of Suddam Hussein but we had to take some tough steps to get there. God forbid, this country of spoiled rotten brats can’t handle the tougher side of being the worlds positive Superpower. All I have to say to this group is - if you think the world is a big, bad place now - just wait until we’re NOT the only Superpower. China, S. Korea, etc. will not be nearly so delightful to the rest of the world.

I will just be glad when this man is out of office; an office he has disgraced, abused, and sold to oil interests, religious fanatics, and who knows who in order to fund this war that Bush started. I have seen Presidents as far back as Eisenhower, who, Republican or Democrat, were honorable men (course, there’s Nixon!). Not Bush. He has disgraced the Constitution, endorsed torture, drained our Treasury, and is responsible for the sadness of over 4000 families and counting. He is an ignorant, vicious, oppositional hate-monger. And WE are responsible as well to even put up with him, because in general, it seems that people are either lazy, stupid, or apathtic about their own country. Wonder why gas is high? YOU don’t say anything about it. Wonder why Bush is in office? YOU put him there. Stone is making the wrong movie. It should be about why a country as vast, generous, intelligent, and magnanimous as ours could let themselves be coerced into the mess we have due to this man.

Peter Gold

This movie is going to tank. The Bush haters are sick of seeing anything about him and have had enough of him, and the supporters don’t want to see anything that will put him in a bad light.

Typical, the liberal media in this country will not stop until they’ve beat the dead horse beyond recognition. OK liberals, we get it, your not a big fan of Bush, but guess what, he’s leaving office in less than a year, so do the United States a favor and just stop your complaining. As for all you who remarked about hate crimes in store for Bush and Cheney, why don’t you take a history lesson, I don’t hear you calling for hate crimes for any of the terror regimes around the world, only in your own country, and the only reason your mad is that you don’t your way, like a spoiled toddler you scream and cry until you get your way. All of you need to grow up, and anyone supporting this film should just leave America.

I won’t be seeing this, and not because of the film’s supposed subject matter either. Oliver’s best days are simply behind him.

Oliver Stone is a completely moronic, liberal wacko. Why would anyone want to see any of his films? George Bush has done a fine job overall, and I find it humorous to see the liberals squirm as much as they do.

The way to tell how well a Republican president is doing is by seeing how loud-mouthed and ridiculous liberal whiners get, and how much they start believing their own lies. I’ve seen more liberals whining in this presidency than those of Bush Sr. and Reagan, indicating that he’s doing a pretty good job.

These very same people were acting pretty stupid during the Reagan administration too, but it seems with the internet and all, there’s more of a medium for them to display their wayward idiocy.

Let me put it to you this way…George Bush has done a helluva better job than Bill Clinton ever dreamed of doing, or that John Kerry or Al Gore could have ever dreamed of doing. We’re alot safer now because of him and his administration’s work. We’re alot more respected internationally too! (and international respect isn’t a “popularity contest” with loser, socialist nations too, by the way) He’s restored alot of respect that was lost during the hell of the Clinton administration.

It’s funny to now how messed up the Democratic Party really is: When you have good-for-nothing, habitually lying social psychopaths like Hillary Clinton (of all people…the worst of the worst) or race peddlars like Barack Obama…God help us if one gets elected! Just the thought of these two in the Oval Office scares me and most of the country.

A movie about “President” Bush. Wait a minute, I didn’t elect him, you all did. But wait, every time I talk to people, they all say the same thing “we didn’t elect him either”. Wait a minute after the 2000 and 2004 election shams, did anyone ACTUALLY elect this man?

Oliver Stone makes movies to entertain people and to make a profit, not to show historical accuracies about any event or the peoples he makes movies about. Going to see this movie is somewhat the equivalent of going to see a Michael Moore movie. Its a movie tailormade for people who already have decided what they think. It will obviously be denigrating, and likely biased as to the Screenwriters opinion.

He may of read 17 books about George W Bush, yet if the majority of them have negative judgemental opinions about him how can he even claim to make a “fair, and true portrait” of him.

History will Judge “W”, while this vain attempt will just feed the ego of those who dislike him.

Of course, what all americans are experiencing right now is nothing short of a box office disaster, but hopefully those who still think this president is doing a good job can go see the movie and understand the facts, and realize that him and cheney really have not done anything to improve the daily american life. They’ve made it just more miserable.

Despite the likely outrageous cost of admision, I’ll be in line. Surely it can’t help but be more honest than its subject has been. And far less violent. How can a film maker present a story more unbelievable than the reality he will be attempting to portray?

Ben
April 8th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Jack, if this were about the president I might be interested, but we all know this film is about Oliver Stone. The man has made a career off of conspiracy theories and historical inaccuracies. Before filming has even begun, we are already hearing tales of how the truth has been twisted. I wouldn’t mind watching the faults of our president as much as the next guy, but i prefer them to be factual.

Oliver Stone has already defined himself as a political hack. Unfortunately, that taints anything he might right as being so grossly biased that the likelihood of getting accurate information is far too unlikely to warrant the cost of a ticket. I’m sure he has enough fans to keep him employed and writing, but he has managed to polarize the potential audience enough that he isn’t likely to ever become main stream. Just another liberal cult fiction writer.

Bryan
April 8th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Sure, I’ll see it, assuming I have $10 to spend on something so frivolous as a movie. Otherwise, I’ll just keep living the Bush dream - shrinking paychecks, skyrocketing food costs, spiraling transportation costs, exponentially increasing bills, ruined credit and a student loan burden so heavy that my legs are breaking under the weight. The movie about Bush should be about people like me. Not to whine… but it really sucks for those of us who don’t have a mommy and daddy in powerful places to help us out.

After reading your article, I would view the movie, just to see if all sides of the truth can still be told in the USA. These eight years have nothing that we can hold on to proudly from top leadership. i voted both times for Bush, but would never do that if I had the chance again. I look forward to the day when all branches of government were truly working for the people.

Jon from Carbondale, Il

But how do we know it ends? There’s so many possibilities! It figures that Stone would exploit the controversy of this sorry excuse for an administration. After all this is the man that cashed in on Jim Morrison’s life, JFK’s death, Alexander the Great’s homosexuality, and oh yeah the brave men and women of New York and their struggle during 9/11. What’s next?
Maybe a movie fraught with inaccuracies about the current primary season? Sam Jackson can play Obama. It’ll be great!

Matt Watson
April 8th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Dispicable that people who claim that they support our country would make a movie that slahes our Chief Executive Officer in a time of war. Its no wonder these “left sided liberals” paint such a pathetic picture of thier democratic party. Hearing things like this story makes me hope that every old grey-headed republican comes out of the woodworks with me to support a republican. I am sure that Al Queda will love to use this movie to recruit thier little lacky’s to help carry out suicde bombs.

All of us who have suffered through the Bush/Cheney nightmare will get to enjoy the raw truth in Stones film. It will be sobering though, when one finally sees what was elected president. Given enough money, narcissism, unbridled greed, special interests, the list goes on and on, we could have elected a jackass. On second thoughts, that’s of course what we did. Am I being overly optimistic if I hope the film will teach us a lesson Jack?

Oliver Stone thought, “well I can’t really argue with a real person on the facts, so let me just make a movie which will be made from my angle only with facts presented as I percieve them to be.” That is exactly what he did with the JFK movie with throwing facts out of the window and showing percieved truth. For the record, No I will not be watching this movie. I would rather watch paint dry.

As an educated American citizen, I realize that President Bush handled 9/11 with outstanding leadership & poise. There is no other candidate that I would rather have had as my President during that tragic period of time. Can you imagine how Al Gore would have handled things? Thank goodness we didn’t have to live through that

Everyone in this blog should educate themselves & understand our political system a little better. Mistakes have been made, but be certain that great strides have been made globally to remove murdering dictators. Do you people understand that in Iraq they killed & tortured innocent people for no good reason…..just a difference in beliefs!

“JFK” was proven to be ridiculous but I thought Mr. Stone’s “NIXON” was a brilliant exploration of a flawed man. I have no doubt that “W” will be the same.

Whtat I would like to know is - Jack, What do you think the President will be doing when he is out of office? Do you think he will help out charities, become the next commissioner of baseball and just spend his remaining days clearing brush? I am surprised at how little this is being discussed….

Brian

I’ll watch it right after I watch a documentary about the nearly a million dead Iraqis and the now four million impoverished, orphaned, widowed and homeless Iraqi refugees resulting from this disastrous war - roughly equivalent to a dollar per Iraqi civilian head of the run-up in value of Dick Cheney’s Haliburton stock options since the start of the war in 2003.

I’m not at all interested in what Hollywood has to say about
politics. I would not bother to see Oliver Stones liberal movie about
President Bush. Hollywood lives in a make-believe, amoral

propaganda designed to brain wash Americans into believing
we are all doomed unless we follow their lead.

If it were a non-partisan documentary, yes. But Stone likes to inject his opinions into what he calls “bio-pics” and although I may agree with his opinion of Bush, I don’t really need to be lied to anymore - by anyone. I already know enough about this president to know how bad he is and Stone doesn’t need to waste time and money pointing it out. The cost of production would be better spent on a film highlighting one of this administration’s many disasters. It would be difficult to choose just one, but it’s more effective to display the carnage than its creator.

JFK was a fantastic look at the abuse of power, even if it was not historically accurate, and that is Stone’s great gift as a flimmaker. WOW! Based on browsing several of the blog comments posted here, my faith in the American public is changing. As a non-American whose culture/entertainment/life in general is greatly influenced by your country, I am elated to see that just about every post I read shared the views of every non-American I know….your country, and the rest of the world, has endured the worst administration in written history.

I implore the American public to not let the actions of this administration go unanswered. Stand up for the freedom that your soldiers have died for (and are currently dying without cause) and hold those in power responsible.

Step up and show some leadership….perhaps the rest of the world might start to show some tolerance and appreciation of your country, if the rule of law is applied to your “leaders”.

Why do we consider movie makers, reporters, talk show host etc as “the experts” on war, our economy, politics or anything other than telling stories? We can’t even trust the people we pay to be our politician to tell us the truth. Including OBAMA!! They are all the same. Get off your duff and do the homework! It’s amazing what you will find. The lack of clear thinking in this thread truly is a sight to behold. Some of you nutters really need to get a life.

Even though Oliver is a fine movie maker, I won’t watch Stone’s movie. Not because I’m a Bush supporter (there are perhaps 9 of those left) but because I’m tired of hearing about Bush. A 2+ hour movie which just restates what we already know has no value to me. I’m going to take my ten bucks and go by a gallon of gas (that’s how much it’ll cost by the time the movie hits the streets, at the rate things are going).

If we can get through Bush’s farewell speech without laughing, get through the Bush Library dedication at the bus station locker in Crawford, Texas, where his entire body of work will be kept (again without laughing), I think we’ll have seen enough of the worst president to serve in American history. I’ll watch Stone’s movie right after I watch the Calvin Coolidge action thriller that I’m hoping comes out soon (another atrocious president).

Stone should consider if he really wants a total flop on his resume. This movie, “W” could be the biggest flop in US history. Yes, I would watch this movie and so should the whole country. Maybe those 25% remaining diehard Bush supporters would wake up and smell the coffee finally (I can dream). I would be sure to bring along a box of tissues to wipe the tears away.

Ive already seen this movie on TV for the last seven years. Why would I ever want to see it again? Wasnt the reality show bad enough?

It will be all I can do to forget this president for what remains of our nations history after his gutting of our most cherished principles.

Didja ever notice when he laughs at one of his own jokes, he bobs his head up and down like Quagmire from Family Guy?

Giggity!

Well Jack I would much rather put lemon juice in my eyes before being subjected to the sight of that nauseating President. No I wouldn’t subject anyone to that spectacle 8 years is more than one can possibly bear.

I guess Stone wants to top the Pearl Harbor movie for crappiest, most pointless historical movie ever made. Judging by his previous movies, it will probably be very inaccurate, and I do not say this as a Bush fan, but as someone who enjoys good movies.

Liberals are funny. I think it’s great how some people can’t give a simple “yes” or “no” answer without being a drama queen.

Would I see this film regardless of how I feel about our current leader? Yeah… why not? I think it was a question about interest in a movie, not a discussion about it’s subject.

Stone is one of the greatest directors of our time and has made important films. His problem is blending fact with fiction. “JFK,” is a perfect example of his ability to weave a terrific film which, unfortunately, lacks
any basis in truth. I assume, from what has been published of the “W” screenplay, that we can expect a great drama built upon a foundation of half truths and lies.

Why hasn’t he made one about the Clinton’s? I think that would be much more entertaining! There would be so much more for a script with their story. Don’t we deserve facts about all of the Presidents, not just the ones the liberals want to hear about?

Come on Jack, why in the world would I want to go and pay my hard earned cash, burning gas I can’t afford, to see a movie that shows us the absolulely absurd world of George W?? I think we’ve had more than enough of the make believe world of our present administration.. Tell ya what why don’t Oliver make a movie on the process of turning a bucket of crude into a $4 gallon of gas!!! I am sure the public would make that a number one release.

I think it would be difficult to top to Frontline Documentaries, The Dark Side and Bush’s War which, through first hand credible interviews, covers Bush and his administration’s histories excellently, and you can see those for free! I would definitely get it on video for laughs. But not see it on the theatre.

Oliver Stone’s movies are just that, movies. They are not documentaries. Given this fact, it is disingenuous for Mr. Stone to market his film as anything but a dramatization. And since you asked, no — I will not waste my time or money to see the movie.

Absolutely. I have felt so alienated by this administration’s cloak of secrecy, and by the course it has taken our country on, that any truth about this man and the reasons for the decisions he’s made could help to put my mind at ease.

Jack, i dont think anyone wants to go out of their way to see a movie bashing this presidency, besides you do it for free. Thanks jack

As if we don’t suffer enough already?! I cringe every time the man speaks on TV, as I brace for the next lie, misstatement, or blunder ! Now they’re doing a movie?! I am absolutely amazed someone would waste even more time, film, and effort on him. Everyone already knows of the educated idiocy which plagues W’s regime…if I have to hear or see even more I just might get physically ill.

The funny thing is that Oliver Stone won’t have to make up all kinds of stuff about the President. There’s a plethora of real life movie quality material on the public record, information that just happens to go right up Stone’s alley. I’m sure this will be both amusing and ultimately depressing.

“The Bush Regime–Take Two: W’s years” Honestly…we’ve lived it. Lost our basic rights under the mantle of security, lost jobs, lost homes, lost competent education…while his cronies rake in the cash with massive profits from oil and power. I’ll have to pass on this one…I couldn’t afford to see it even if I did want to watch it.

No. I’m like most Americans, I reject the ridiculous far left smear movies. Anyone up to date on how much Mark Cuban’s stupid “Redacted” earned? $65,000 domestic. I’m sure he’ll be much happier with the ticket sales overseas.

NO, NO and NO! I have lived through the last seven years of this “dumbo” who glided on his father’s coattails through Yale and slide through Harvard’s Business School. This has to be a horror movie of how a “D” student destroyed his fellow citizens’ freedom, rights and prosperity without guilt or gile all in the name of Christ. The worst President ever! Not even Hoover was this bad!

I read these posts and I wonder if your readers have even a basic education. Much of the world has seen 4 -5 dollar gas for some time now. There was a time that a coke cost a dime. A coke today will set you back 2 dollars. That is 20 times what it cost then. A gallon of milk cost about 10 times what it did at one time. A bottled water could cost you 3 dollars. That was free at one time. The people of China are starting to leave their small farms and going into the cities. There is only so much gas, milk, soda, and bottled water. The point is there was a time of 2 dollar gas…

The same thing that happened in the US during the industrial revolution is now taking place in China. The President nor Congress are responsible for this. The world is getting much smaller…

It would be a good film to show the future generations that just because a President says somthing does not make it true. Just like Nixon films did for my generation. Maybe this time somebody will learn.
